October 5, 2019 at Lincoln Hills

October 8, 2022
Location: Lincoln Hills Fly Fishing Club – Blackhawk, CO
Hosted by: Anglers of Honor & River Deep Foundation
Participating groups: Craig Hospital, Operation TBI Freedom, Ft. Carson SRU – 15 Participants

Today we are fishing South Boulder Creek and the ponds at Lincoln Hill Fly Fishing Club. This is our last fishing outing of the season. For most of the veterans and Craig Hospital patients here today, this is their first time experiencing fly fishing, but today is about more than fishing. The participants are here because they have had a life changing experience that resulted in physical, psychological or emotional injuries. For them, today is about healing, meeting new friends and seeing old ones. Yes, they will learn about the fundamentals of fly fishing, but also about the peace and calm being on the water can bring. The guides from Front Range Anglers were fantastic and took everyone through the basics step-by-step. Participants were then paired off with guides and enjoyed the morning on the river or the ponds. The bonus is that everyone caught fish and had a great time! We then gather together for lunch and conversation. You can see the joy in everyones faces. Our hope is that all the participants we have taken to Lincoln Hills will continue to develop their fly fishing skills as a way to enjoy the outdoors and healing effects of the water. Thank you to the Gondolier Restaurant for providing wonderful food, to Lincoln Hills Fly Fishing Club for their continued generosity and all the volunteers and organizations who made this day possible. Today’s outing was made possible by a grant  from Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund. We are extremely grateful for their support.
